Ze'ev Jabotinsky

Written in the mid 1930s in Paris, this novel, originally in Russian, tells the story of five brothers and sisters of one family in Odessa, Russia in the first decade of the 20th century. Though a Jewish family, one of many in Odessa at the time, this family is not attached to its Jewish heritage, and it aspires to be "modern" and merge in the general society of its time.

This is Jabotinsky's second novel, after his epic Samson (Shimshon), and like its predecessor, it expresses the tragic being through "light" elements and details about the figures in the story.

Dena Markon updated the old Hebrew translation from the 1940s. Prof. Dan Miron added an epilogue to the novel, "The Sixth Brother".
